Cranbrook Colourstrings

Ingrid Sellschop was born South Africa into a musical family, so it was not surprising
that she grew to love music. Ingrid followed in her sister's footsteps, choosing
at the age of 8 to play the violin. During a year in America she was fortunate enough
to study with Irwin Eisenberg of the Philadelphia String Quartet. Ingrid continued
her studies when the family settled in England. She was an enthusiastic member of
the Brighton Youth Orchestra, which enabled her to establish long lasting friendships
and to experience the excitement of touring to a number of different countries with
her musical friends.
Ingrid studied with many eminent teachers over the years, but the ones who truly
made an impression on her were Frederick Grinke, Jack Glickman, Nicholas Roth and
Diana Cummings. They were all highly individual, enthusiastic and inspiring teachers.
After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music in 1983, Ingrid enjoyed combining
an active freelance career as violinist in many chamber orchestras with teaching
the violin. It was her dedication to her teaching that led her to explore the Colourstrings
method and she has not looked back since!
Ingrid's association with the North London Colourstrings Centre started in 1996,
where she taught music kindergarten, violin and chamber music for five years from
1996 - 2001. She then moved to Cranbrook, to bring up her two children.
She felt a real desire to start teaching music again. Teaching Colourstrings had
been such a rewarding experience that she leapt at the chance to set up a school
in Cranbrook with Deborah Harris as Principal, and take on the role of Associate
Principal. Ingrid is delighted with the success that the Cranbrook Colourstrings
Centre has enjoyed to date and anticipates it continuing to grow into a thriving
music school.
